What would be the 3 Ingredients to Consider and Avoid in Clean Makeup? I’ve come a long way since I started using clean makeup and organic skincare. Initially, I was adamant about using only using organic skincare or makeup. However, over time I realised it was not a sustainable goal for me, mostly because I have extremely sensitive skin and because of the lack of availability of superior quality clean makeup and clean skincare in India.
The scene today in India, however, looks more promising than it was back in 2015. But the problem initially was that I was acting from a place of fear and fear is not the right place to make decisions from. I realised I need to use clean makeup and clean skincare for life long, so it is okay if I want to spray a previously loved perfume once in a blue moon. The point is to avoid harmful chemicals in your beauty products on an everyday basis. Although, when it comes to deodorant, I use 100% clean deodorant and it must be free from aluminium. However, it is always better to be careful, and so I am quickly sharing with you 3 Ingredients to Consider and Avoid in Clean Makeup:
Lead – Although lead occurs naturally in nature, we are all aware of lead poisoning. Once considered a rumour that some lipsticks contain lead, it turned out to be true when the FDA tested hundreds of lipsticks following an alert issued by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. Lead mainly affects the nervous system and harms the hormonal system. (read my post on organic lip balms) .
Talc – talc has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. You may want to avoid it entirely, or you can look for certified and organic products. But please make sure you keep it away from your babies. Alternatives to talc are – arrowroot, cornflower, silica etc. Talc is a natural mineral with an absorbent effect that leaves the skin shine-free and smooth.
Fragrance –Since I have extremely sensitive skin, I avoid fragrance. Most lipsticks, mascara, foundations include artificial fragrances.
Water, aloe vera, coconut oil, jojoba oil and iron oxides.
Zinc oxide – used as a white pigment and non-synthetic chemical sunscreen.
Kaolin also is known as China Clay – kaolin is a soft white clay principally made up of mineral kaolinite.
