How Firewalking helped my Personal Growth

How firewalking helped my personal growth

After more than a year-long sabbatical, I’m finally back to writing blogs. I missed connecting with all of you, but the break was necessary for me. Most importantly, because I needed to spend more time on my personal growth, family, education, health and of course, business.

I’d like to share a little bit of what I learnt while I took time off.

My Weight loss Journey (which is still on btw)

I had been chubby growing up, but during my teenage years and early twenties, I managed to lose all the extra fat. I was also too vain (not in the arrogant way but superficial you could say). However, right after graduation and after getting married, I gained nearly 20 kilos in 2 years. There are many reasons for that, starting with lifestyle changes to hormonal issues. Still, I had a good time for the first couple of years as I had the kind of freedom I never experienced before.

But a couple of years later, I started losing self-confidence. Being at both ends from fit to being overweight taught me one crucial thing – your size does not define you. Previously, I was obsessed with my skin, my hair, my weight and my grades, but I realised I need not be so hard on my self trying to be perfect. What I learnt to focus on was to be the best version of myself instead. And how was I going to do that?

It took me quite a lot of soul searching and of course, a significant person in my life – my mentor and friend – Eefa Shrof. I had gone into coaching with her just with the idea of losing fat, but what all I learnt from her life can never be described in plain words. While on her program, I realised that the one thing or one person who has been stopping me from losing the fat or kept me stuck was MYSELF. My habit of always playing it safe and never getting out of my comfort zone was the very reason.

Although I’ve been a risk-taker in all aspects of my life while growing up, somewhere, I had learnt to play it safe and not get out of my comfort zone, and it ultimately became a habit.

Fire walking experience

What gave me the breakthrough was My Firewalking experience.

The Firewalking was preceded by a whole day’s workshop where Eefa worked with us to let us dive deeper into ourselves. I realised if I were to get where I wanted to be, then I must go through all the small challenges life throws at me. I must never back down.

Honestly, speaking, I was super scared and worried before the walk. I went there thinking I’ll take the class and not do the walk, but the energy of the group and the support from Eefa made me overcome my apprehensions.

I was exhilarated after the walk. It was just unbelievable. I had made up several stories in my head about how I would not be able to do it. I was surprised thinking about all the other ways I must be stopping myself from achieving my dreams and my goals. I didn’t even get blisters. Life has a way of creating a lot of self-doubts but what I learnt was that making mistakes was necessary. Without them, growth would not be possible. If I could walk on hot coal and not burn my feet, imagine what I am capable of if I focus.

I’m sharing a few pictures and the video so you can actually take a peek at our excitement after the firewalk and sense our nerves before it.

A note of caution, if you ever try firewalking, please make sure the coach is qualified from a distinguished institution and the whole process is carried while practising high safety standards.

So nice to read the post. After reading I got motivation and inspiration about wiping out all the negativity in my own life and focus on all the positive. Even though I don’t need to lose weight the stories churned out in the video and in the personal experience of Alisha I think I too am capable of being brave and fearless driving my life to the best point of my life. It surely is an amazing experience I feel.
